REPRESENTATIONS

How do the above technical codes create representations in terms of:

Gender: Male/female (Percentage of males/females – stereotypes? Positive/negative)

Age: Babies, Children, Teenagers, young couples, adults, and old aged pensioners – How do the age representations compare? And what does this tell us about the characters? (Positive/negative)

Ethnicity: Caucasian (white), Eastern Europeans, Asians, Black people etc (Positive/negative)

Sexuality: Straight, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexuals, and Transvestites etc (Positive/negative)

Class & status: Upper class, Middle class, Working class, Homeless (ABC1/C2DE). How is class displayed through costume, accents etc (Positive/negative)

Physical ability/disability: levels of ability/disability [Mental or Physical] (Positive/negative)

Regional identity: Northerner’s (Scousers, Geordies, Manchunians) Southerners (Cockney’s) Midlanders: Brummies – Scots, Welsh, Irish. How do the different regional accents of characters tell us about them? (Positive/negative)
